About our Middlebury, Indiana Bed & Breakfast

The Country Victorian Bed and Breakfast is a circa 1894 Queen Anne Victorian built in the Free Classic style. It features a pseudo-Palladian window on the side gable and was designed for the J. F. Nusbaum family by one of the architects on the team responsible for the design of the Colombian Exposition building at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Joseph Nusbaum was one of Middlebury’s town druggists and although his drug store is gone, his home has been preserved and lovingly restored. The original woodwork, including the gingerbread in the entry and the built in china hutch in the dining room, are virtually untouched except for the daily dusting. Mr. Nusbaum’s daughter, Carrie Nusbaum Ozane kept the property and used it as her summer home until the 1960′s.

Early each morning (7:15 am) you will find our fresh brewed signature coffee and specialty teas in the dining room awaiting your arrival. Enjoy it on the front porch while watching the horse and buggies clip clopping by, or in the parlor with the morning paper. Your freshly prepared three course full breakfast will be served in the dining room at 8:30 Monday thru Friday, and 9 am on Saturday & Sunday. We serve all of our guests breakfast at the same time but if you need an earlier time please ask the innkeeper when you check in. Please let us know when you make your reservation or at check-in if you have special dietary needs.

In the winter, the parlor is a relaxing place to sit by the fire, read or work on the jigsaw puzzle that is always going. In the warmer months feel free to relax out back in the hammock, or on the back patio by the firepit, feel free to play a game of horseshoes, walk the gardens or sit on the front porch with a cool glass of tea or lemonade and some freshly baked homemade cookies.

Arnie & I invite you to relax in one of our five non-smoking guest rooms with private baths, each of which has some of our favorite antique pieces from our families, or were brought back from our European travels. Each room has its own character and style while accommodating a variety of needs. Wi-fi, flat screen televisions with cable, CD/DVD players, bathrobes, hairdryers, plush towels and freshly ironed linens are a few of the special touches we hope will make you feel at home while you are staying with us.
